Uniform: The scout uniform is a big contributor to the scouting spirit. Each scout is expected to arrive at camp in full summer dress uniform. This uniform will be worn at vespers, evening meals, check-in, and at the Camp Barnhardt campfires. At other times, a scout t-shirt and shorts are accptable. Shoes are required everywhere at all times except while at the pool. No open toed shoes will be permitted (sandals, flip-flops, etc.)

Family Night: On Wednesday, families of campers are invited to visit and tour the camp. Plan on arriving around 6:00PM. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic or covered dish supper to be eaten at Camp Barnhardt. After supper, family members are invited to attend a chapel ceremony and campfire. You can remain at the camp until 8:30.

Troop Leadership: All troops must be under the leadership of two adult leaders at all times. Leaders may rotate if necessary but there must be two leaders available to the troop 24 hours a day. Parents, committee menbers and other adults who accompany a unit to camp must meet all of the qualifications for leadership. Leaders must be 18 years of age or older to qualify as an adult, but one leader must be over 21.

Leaving Camp: Scouts can leave camp ONLY under the direction of an adult and ONLY after registering in the Camper's Sign-out Log located in Montgomery Lodge. Leaders must register at Montgomery Lodge and an updated list of troop leaders must be provided to camp staff. Two leaders must be present at all times.

Campfires: All units attend the opening campfire by reporting to the Montgomery Fire Circle at 9:00PM on the daily of arrival. The Wednesday night campfire will follow the flag retreat ceremony at 8:15PM. The Friday night closing campfire will recognize campers and leaders for their hard work all week in camp.

Mail Services: Mail is delivered into camp once a day and letters generally take 2-3 days to get to camp. A mailbox is located in front of Montgomery Lodge for outgoing mail. The address for Camp Barnhardt is:

Scout's Name, Troop 83
Camp John J. Barnhardt

Trading Post: The John Belk Trading Post is well stocked with most of the items your scout will need for camp, including snack foods and drinks. A supply of literature, batteries, t-shirts, caps, patches, scout equipment and supplies are available. Historically, scouts will spend an average of $40.00 during their week at camp.

Health and Medical Information: Located in front of the camp parking lot, a medical office and Health Lodge is staffed with persons trained to handle minor accidents and illnesses. Special arrangements have been made with physicians nearest to camp for treatment of most severe cases. If such treatment is required, the camper's parents will be notified by telephone and their desires concerning treatment will be respected. The camp will refuse admittance to any camper who does not have a completed medical form. All first aid administered anywhere in camp must be reported to the Camp Medical Officer and entered in the Camp First Aid Log. The Health Lodge is open 24 hours a day.

Medications: Scouts requiring medication should inform their scoutmaster prior to arrival at camp. Special arrangements will be made for camp staff to administer the medicine. Times for dispensing medications and times when the Health Lodge will be open will be posted. If the scout does not show up for his medication, the camp medic will notify the camp director and unit leader to have the individual come to the Health Lodge.

Insurance: In the event of an insurance claim, the parent's insurance is primary, the unit and/or Camp Barnhardt insurance is secondary. At check-in, all units will be asked to present their unit insurance number.

Medical Forms: The National Camp Standard M24 requires that a health history, revised within the past 12 months, and a physical examination, conducted within the past 36 months, are required of each youth camper and adult leader under 40 years old. A copy of the physical form must be attached to the health history. Use Class II forms for campers under 40 years old. Campers over 40 years old should fill out the Class 3 medical form.

Any person, youth or adult staying at Camp Barnhardt and arriving without a completed health and medical record will be sent to the nearest doctor to have an examination at his or her own expense. If an exam is not available, the camper will be sent home.
