Welcome to the web site for Troop 83 - Boy Scouts of America, located in Concord, North Carolina. Troop 83 is a member of Concord District and the Central North Carolina Council. The troop is sponsored by Rocky River Presbyterian Church.
Troop Meeting – Tuesday, May 4th Troop 83 will be meeting at the Hickory Ridge High School parking lot at 6:50 pm on Tuesday, May 4th. No uniforms. Please bring your bike if you have one. We will have a leader checking out your bike. Also bring your helmet. No one will be allowed to ride a bike without a helmet. This is part of our preparation for the biking trip on the New River Trail later this month. If you do not have a bike and/or a helmet, you need to be at the meeting. We will need to know how many bikes and helmets to rent. The meeting should end at 8 pm.
Troop 83 Camping and Biking – May 21-23 Our next camping trip will be from Friday evening May 21st to Sunday May 23rd. We will plan to leave from the Hut at 6 pm on Friday. We will travel to BSA Camp Raven Knob, located near Mt. Airy, NC. On Saturday morning we will leave Camp Raven Knob after breakfast and travel to the New River State Park at Foster Falls, VA. From there we will ride our bikes on the New River Trail. Any Scout who does not have a bike and/or a helmet will be able to rent one from the outfitter at the park. The trail is mostly flat. We will plan to eat lunch on the trail. We will return to Camp Raven Knob in the late afternoon in time to prepare our supper meal and campfire. After a nondenominational chapel service on Sunday morning, we will depart for home – planning to arrive back at the Hut around lunch time. A sign up sheet for the trip will be available at the meeting tomorrow night.
Troop 83 Summer Camp - July 11-17
Troop 83 will be attending BSA Summer Camp at Camp Barnhardt from Sunday afternoon, July 11th to Saturday morning, July 17th. This is a great opportunity for our new Scouts to work on many of the Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class requirements. It is a great opportunity for our Scouts who have been in the Troop for a year or longer to earn several merit badges that are required for advancement to Star, Life and Eagle. The total cost for the week is $175. A deposit of $25 was due by March 28th. If you have not paid the $25 deposit, please contact Bill Hyland as soon as possible at 704-577-2853. The week will be action-packed – with afternoon and evening activities planned for each day. Wednesday is family night, where you can visit the camp for a covered dish diner and several fun activities. All Scouts are highly encouraged to attend summer camp. Summer Camp is the highlight of the Scouting year.
All Scouts will need to have a physical form completed for Summer Camp. The forms will be available at the Troop meeting tomorrow night. A copy of the form is attached to this email. Parts A and C are to be completed by parents. Part B is to be completed by the person conducting the physical. The fully completed physical form is mandatory for attendance at summer camp.
